New partnership: ICEYE
Polish companies ICEYE and Scanway will jointly build high-resolution satellite optical systems
ICEYE Poland, the domestic branch of ICEYE, a world leader in the field of continuous Earth monitoring using SAR radar satellites, and Scanway, a Wroclaw-based company specializing in cutting-edge optical and vision technologies for the space sector, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the design of high-resolution optical satellites for Polish users, and potentially for global customers in the future. The document was signed during the International Defense Industry Exhibition in Kielce by ICEYE CEO and co-founder Rafal Modrzewski and Scanway S.A. CEO and founder Jedrzej Kowalewski.
The new satellites are to be used for defense purposes and will achieve the optical resolution of 50 cm needed for proper target detection and identification. They will join ICEYE’s existing SAR systems, giving Polish customers access to comprehensive Earth observation data combining the advantages of optical and radar systems.
ICEYE has selected Scanway as an experienced manufacturer of optical telescope systems to supply its products to international customers for a wide range of multi-purpose missions. Scanway trusted ICEYE as an international company with experience in the development of 150-200 kg satellite systems. Both companies anticipate that additional partners may join the consortium over time.
„Currently, the military needs optical systems with a resolution of at least 50 cm. Such systems can be mounted on satellites of the 150-200 kg class, which is what ICEYE produces and operates. We have unique experience in building, launching and operating satellites of this size, as we have already launched 38 of them. I am very pleased with the agreement with the Polish company Scanway, as our cooperation will contribute to Poland’s security,” said Rafal Modrzewski, co-founder and CEO of ICEYE.
„Providing customers with larger and more advanced optical instruments capable of sub-meter resolution imaging is Scanway’s strategic direction, and the opportunity to do so with a partner such as ICEYE is a great distinction for us, as well as a space to achieve the natural synergies that come from combining the advantages of optical and radar systems. The addition of Scanway to the existing and regularly expanding ICEYE constellation is also a verification of our competence and a confirmation of the important position we occupy in the global market of entities providing satellite imaging. I am convinced that the announced cooperation will allow us to create the advanced designs that Poland and Europe so urgently need,” commented Jedrzej Kowalewski, Scanway S.A.’s creator and CEO.
